The 2008 ARS Convention in Tulsa Oklahoma was a very special one!! Not because we saw so many rhododendrons in flower - also due to the cold weather before - but certainly for the nice amusements in the evenings. We had big laughs with Willamae, a stand-up-comedian, who just had returned from a trip to Belgium and the Netherlands. And not to forget the entertainment of Jana Jae and her band - she tought me to hold the string so she could play on it with her  fiddle. Oh, boy, so good!!!
For the rest - just see the albums for a good impression.

For a daily review of the convention see the ARS Journal Vol. 62 Number 1 Winter 2008 page 39ff.
Some days before and after the convention I stayed and travelled with Larry Coleman from Batesville AR. I had such a wonderful time with him!! We visited some nurseries, parks and the Cedar Creek Waterfall in the  Petit Jean Park AR. Thanks Larry!!
For me the highlights - out of all the nice events - were the Gilcrease Indian Art museum, Larry Dushane - an Eastern Shawnee Native American, playing on his Indian flutes. Now I had the chance to shake hands with a real Indian. The Woodward Park in Tulsa with hundreds of flowering evergreen azaleas in a wonderful setting.
Unfortunately the rhododendrons of the Lendonwood Garden and Elk Ridge were hardly in flower, because of the cold and windy weather.
After the Convention Larry and I visited the Garvan Woodland Park near Hot Springs in Arkansas. Beautiful!!
Looking back on my trip I had a wonderful time. I hope that the Americans now can pronounce my name as good as I can speak Okie slang! Or as bad.....................      Enjoy the albums:
